As the newly minted Customer Success Architect for Orion Governance, one of my first tasks was to represent Orion Governance at the 2023 National Retail Federation conference in New York City, January 14 – 17th. We have so far achieved most of our success in the financial industry, and now we’re spreading our Enterprise Information Intelligence Graph (EIIG) message and our ROI to other verticals including the retail industry.
Thoughts from NRF’s Big Show
From speaking with attendees who stopped at our booth, I confirmed our belief that a graphical near-real time “map” of an enterprise’s data landscape is indeed an advantage for retail analysts and decision makers. The people making decisions see a lot of charts and graphs, and they need the confidence of knowing those pictures they want added to company reports are correct. Correspondingly, their data engineers need tools to verify that data is behaving correctly and to drill down to the root cause of any problem they detect.
Learning the Language of Our Stakeholders
Over the years I have learned that speaking the language of your stakeholder is important. Not just in the sense of spoken languages; NRF’s Big Show is a global conference and seeing so many come from all over the world just emphasized the Orion philosophy that an enterprise data governance application should support many languages. But also, there’s a lot of people who don’t understand some of my terms, such as ‘metadata’, and it’s important to have Orion’s capability to allow business users to find data assets by searching for the business terms they understand.
Finally, although there’s no place like home, there’s no place like a large trade show to easily speak and exchange ideas with our partners and current and prospective customers. Even for someone like myself, who looks at his job through a technical lens, the chance to interact with people both like and unlike me is vital in generating ideas to improve our products and services.
Other Chances to Connect
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Visit us at our next conference which is the Gartner Data & Analytics conference in Orlando March 20-22, 2023. Stop by to say hello, or even better give me your own opinion on data governance and data fabrics. There’s nothing I enjoy more than a spirited discussion with an informed counterpart. Want to chat outside the conference arena? Connect with me on LinkedIn or email me today.
